Long Melford Cricket Club Sun 1st XI v Nowton II on Sun 23 Apr 2017 at 1.30pm
Long Melford Cricket Club Won by 129 Runs
Match report
A cracking start for the Sunday 1st team at home against Nowton on St George's Day. Matt Hoadley as usual lost the toss and the visitors put the Mellie Stags into bat......big big error of judgment as the home team racked up 282 for 6. Cameron Luke Stace and Hoads started of at a cracking pace...Bill Byford fresh from the European gymnastics game didn't quite nail his floor exercise and was run out. Mr Secretary Neil Sawyer and all rounder Matthew Wood all made double figures scores.....but the 2 big innings were played by Joshua Arendse who bludgeoned the Nowton bowling and hit his second century of the weekend. Included in his 126 were 11 6's and 11 4's....however the most significant and unselfish knock was by Lee Ruffle in getting out and letting Joshua express himself.
In reply Nowton were never in it.....young Emmit Phillip King bowled with pace and the real Chris Wenborn bowled with top control. It was left to the change bowlers of Kevin and Perry...( it's just not fair)..Kieran Pettitt Matt wood to knock over the middle order ...but it was not all down to the youth of the herd....mature Beef Lorro snapped up 3 wickets despite rump beef pains. Nowton reply fizzled out to 153 all out. ...a good day a comprehensive victory...some good mooing and grazing had by all.
