Match report On a glorious sunny day long melfords captain stuart whitehart lost the toss on a flat batting track and was promptly asked to bowl.
Last seasons opening pair Gareth Boon and James French kept it tight for the first 10 overs before Tomsett started to score boundaries. Boon then got the breakthrough in the 13th over.
This brought Mr Catley together with Tomsett and they batted nicely for a 100 partnership. This was broken shortly after with the ever impressive Tom Barnard who trapped Catley lbw for 68. Tomsett was then caught in the deep by Barnard at the 2nd attempt off the bowling of Sarmad. Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals, Barnard the pick of bowlers finishing with 11overs 3-39.
Exning limped to 202-9 after being 156-1 just 10 overs previous.
After tea mellie boys got off to a good start despite the early loss of the unlucky Barnard who drilled a well timed pull shot straight at square leg who juggled it before grabbing it just inches from the ground at the second attempt.
This brought Adam Mathews to the crease, who began to build a 98 run stand with Steve Martin to put melford into a winning position.
Steve Martin (69) was in impressive form stroking back foot drives to the cover fence for fun it seemed. Adam Mathews (85 not out) seemed to be driving with relative ease at the other end on what was a road of a batting track.
The drinks break was the downfall of Steve Martin for 69 chipping to long on. Sarmad came out needing only to finish the game off and cap a brilliant all round performance on week1 of div 2. Long Melford reaching there target of 203-2 with 10 overs to spare and plenty more rabbits in the hutch.
