With melford winning the toss and putting Brightlingsea in to batt James French and Gareth boon were hoping to carry on the good work from last week. French was finding hard to find any kind of rhythm boon on the other hand soon found his and had his wicket s.barker caught behind by chris cleverley. Melford weren't having it all there own way with Brightlingsea knowing how to batt on a substandard wicket with Brightlingsea reaching 53 boon had his 2nd wicket t.cracknall caught behind by cleverley. French was finding it hard he was replaced by bill Byford. Boon then got his 3rd wicket j. Barry lbw boon was bowling well Byford also, Byford soon got his first wicket b. McDonald caught by Craig boon, Byford then got his 2nd b. hardy caught by James French. Boon had finished his spell with figures of 15-5-27-3.
Stuart whitehart replaced boon and with Brightlingsea throwing everything at the ball was soon getting back in to the game, whitehart then got his 1st wicket l. Gould caught behind by cleverley. Byford then got his 3rd r. Minshull caught by cleverley then cleverley had his 5th catch of the day by removing h. Hawkins off the bowling of Byford . With overs running out melford only needing 2 wickets to get maximum bowling points whitehart then clean bowled G. McDonald and in the last over Byford got his 5th wicket of the game with a fine piece of keeping from Cleverly who had A. Duncan stumped. Brightlingsea all out for 159. Byford ended with figures of 14.4-1-58-5 and it was all good day for cleverley who had 5 catches and 1 stumping to his name.
Melford's reply didn't get off to the best of starts as they were 2 for 2 Steve Martin and Byford going for a duck. Ashley skeggs and lee Phillips seemed to rebuild for melford but with the score at 35 Phillips was out , joe Harvey then joined skeggs but when the score was at 57 skeggs chopped on leaving melford 57 for 4. Whitehart then joined Harvey. At this point Brightlingsea where bowling well. Melford were looking for one big partnership to seem them over the line but that didn't occur as whitehart was out leaving melford 88 for 5 , Craig boon then joined Harvey but wasn't around for long leaving melford 98 for 6 Gareth boon then joined Harvey but was caught leaving melford 113 for 7 which then brought chris Wenborn to the crease. With wickets and overs running out Harvey new he had to dig deep but was eventually caught on the boundary for a well batted 47 leaving melford 137 for 8 French was next to go with melford on 141 for 9 needing melford needing 18 off the last over melford fell 15 runs short. Leaving melford on 144 for 9. Brightlingsea bowled well but it was a game that melford should have one so melford now move on to next weekend and put this loss behind them and get back to winning way.
