Longmelford 1st Xl vs Woodbridge & OW
With the forecast not looking good on the Saturday melford had to thank again there groundsman Ivan whitehart for making it possible to play. The game started on time melford won the toss and put Woodbridge in to Batt with it beening the best bowling conditions melford were hoping to put pressure on Woodbridge from the off, melford didn't have to wait long for the first wicket to fall with James French claiming his first wicket of Billy Hammnett caught by Gareth boon Woodbridge 6 for 1. Gareth boon didn't have to wait long for his first wicket removing Matt Parker for a duck clean bowled leaving Woodbridge 10 for 2 boon and French were getting the ball to swing and move off the pitch Woodbridge where finding batting very difficult. Boon soon had Adam green caught and bowled leaving Woodbridge 17 for 3. French was bowling exceptional well from the other end beating the outside edge on more then one occasion boon then got his third wicket of the day Ian Akers caught by ben Barnbrook with a very good one handed catch leaving Woodbridge 23 for 4 French then got his 2nd wicket of the day with a fine delivery removing Ed Parker leaving Woodbridge 23 for 5. French's very next over saw him getting his 3rd Ryan scoopes caught behind by chris cleverly Woodbridge 27 for 6. Woodbridge found some residence with Ben foreman but trying to get his team to a decent score he tryed to hit French over the top but on,y manage to slice one to Stuart whitehart at point which gave French his 4th wicket of the game. French finished with figures off 15-5-40-4 and boons figures were 12--5-22-3.
With bill Byford and Ben Barnbrook brought in on the bowling attack Woodbridge were 64 for 7 so with melford only needing 3 wickets to wrap up woodbridges innings Byford soon got in on the act removing Andy Oswald caught by joe Harvy Barnbrook then got his first wicket david driver caught behind by cleverly leaving Woodbridge 83-9 Barnbrook then wrapped up woodbridges inning with a delivery that turned and clean bowled Nathan Jenkins leaving Woodbridge 89 all out.it was a fine bowling and fielding performance from the melford men.
With melford only needing 89 to win nick wright and Steve martin set about the task wright and Martin where going along nicely with wright hitting some big shots, wright then gloved one to gully leaving melford 35 for 1 Byford then joined Martin at the crease but then Martin was giving out lbw melford now 45 for 2. S.whitehart was next in to bat but only scoring 1 run whitehart was caught at mid on 46 for 3 joe Harvey then joined Byford. Harvey seemed to be timing the ball and was going along nicely but then got a good delivery and was caught behind melford 60 for 4 Craig boon was the next man in with melford needing 30 runs to win they were making hard work of it c.boon was next to go after beening runout. G. Boon was next in to batt boon only managed 4 he was caught at mid wicket melford were now 73 for 6 Barnbrook then joined Byford with plenty of overs left in the game melford needing less then 1 a over Byford and Barnbrook steady the ship and saw melford home to victory Byford not out 22 and Barnbrook not out 11 that now makes it 6 wins on the bounce for the mellie men.
