Long Melford Cricket Club Won By 5 runs

Match report Sudbury twos v long melford 1st 10th may
In a local Derby you want it to be a belter of a game and it did not disappoint with both teams giving it there all.
With a delayed start to the game things got under way at 1.30 sudbury won the toss and put melford in to bat first starting with our opening batsmen nick wright and Steve Martin!
In the first over of the game melford lost nick wright to the bowling of Adam Clark which then brought bill Byford in to the crease!
Byford and Martin were having to be patient as Ben Hyett was bowling a tight line, but when the bad ball came along Martin put it away to the boundary. With the score at 26 melford lost there second wicket Clark once more taking the wicket of Byford caught behind by Kenny moulton-day.
Martin was then joined by joe Harvey, melford once again had to rebuild and concentration was a must as Hyett was continuing to bowel well. Harvey soon got in to his stride and soon reached 21, Hyett then got his wicket having Harvey trapped lbw which then brought Hugh Walters in! Walters wasn't in for long as A. Dhage got his first wicket as A. Simmods caught a excellent one handed catch which then brought Stuart whitehart to the crease. Martin was then next to go he was Hyett's second wicket lbw martin batted well for his 15 runs but in the context of the game melford needed to hang around as wickets were falling Ashely Skeggs then joined whitehart but was soon back in the pavilion skeggs was given out lbw off the bowling of Dhage but with the ball seeing as it was going down leg side skeggs had to go! Gareth boon (cpt) was next man in with the score at 78 for 6 sudbury were well on top at this point. Boon and whitehart needed to dig deep.
Whitehart was then scoring well and been supported by Boon then the rain came and a early tea was taken. After tea whitehart and boon still had 14 overs to get melford to a respectable total and something for the bowlers to bowl at. Whitehart soon got on his way boon was given a strike back to whitehart and every given opportunity but with boon taking on one run to many he was run out for 12. Craig Boon was next in, whitehart got to his 50 with some fine stroke play. C.boon chipped in with 11 before he was stumped by moulton-day, whitehart was soon having one fun as he was hitting the ball to all parts of the ground including friars street!!
JamesFrench was run out trying to give the strike back to whitehart then chris cleverley was the last of the melford bats man to join whitehart , from the last over whitehart hit 13 runs from it. Melford ended up with a total of 174-9 which was I good come back as at one point they were only 78 - 6. Whitehart was not out on 80 which was a well played innings.
Sudbury's innings got off to the same start as melford's as W. Shropshire was trapped lbw from G. Boon's 1st over leaving sudbury 5 for 1. P. Siegert joined p.harris at the crease. French then had a chance of a caught and bowled of siegert but did not take his chance as the ball dropped and went backwards on to the stumps and Harris was short of his ground and run out. A. Younger then joined siegert and started to rebuild , younger started to find the boundary and siegert was not far behind him in the boundary count. Younger kept trying to sweep Byford but with not much success younger then tried one to many sweep shots and was trapped lbw by Byford. Younger scored a handy 35 that brought in K. Moulton-day at this point melford were still behind but still believed they had a chance to win the game, siegert was batting nicely moulton-day was next to go clean bowled by Byford, C. Cook then joined siegert cook didn't want to hang about as melford started to get them selves in front as sudbury were running out of overs and some fine bowling from Byford and Walter and pressure in the field. Cook was then given out lbw which was Walters first wicket cook went for 16. Woodison then came to the crease, he came out swinging and soon found the boundary but then siegert's innings came to an end as he was stumped by cleverley (wktkp) off the bowling of Byford a very useful innings of 59. A. Simmons was next in Woodson kept trying to find the boundary but trying to go for one big shot was caught by S. Martin from the bowling of French in the last over of the game with sudbury needing 6 off the last ball to win the game all B. Hyett could do is find a single. Long Melford win by 5 runs. Long Melford bowled and fielded extremely well is was a solid all round team performance from the mellie boys.
