A terrific set of results from Saturday and Sunday with 4 wins out of 4 set a high standard for the Mellie 2nds to continue with the bank holiday Monday visit of Walsham to Meetingsfield. Winning the toss Melford elected to bat first on their home wicket and with a strong batting line up. Opening pair of the evergreen John Stuck and Nicholas Wright started very brightly by putting on 45 for the 1st week before Wright was dismissed by a good catch at gully for 20. From here on the Walsham bowlers took control and bowled very tight and the Mellie batsmen found it difficult to score. David Hodge stood fast as wickets fell at the opposite end and he topped scored with 34 and the Mellie innings fell apart in the 42nd over for 135 all out. Forbes returning the best figures of 4 for 15 from only 6 overs.
In reply the Walsham Liam Bryant produced some positive and accomplished strokes and soon had the score board ticking over as he raced to his 50. James French dismissed the other opener but Walsham were cruising to victory. That was until Dave Hodge was given the ball and he plundered 4 wickets to keep Mellie 2nds interest in the match. Bowling partner Lawrence Hall chipped in with 2 quick wickets as the Walsham lost 6 wicket and fell to 112 for 7. But with some fortunate boundaries and lusty blows the lower order saw the away home to victory
