Mellie 2nds returned from Worlingworth with 19 points in the bag after a very good team performance. The home side were inserted by Mellie Skipper Matthew Hoadley after managing to finally win a toss. Senior bowler Ivan Newman was given the new ball and bowled 15 overs straight off, claiming the danger man Aldis with the aid of a smart catch by Neil Johns in his 3 for 39 His opening bowling partner Matthew Hoadley had to replace by Lawrence Hall after he had a back spasm. Hall also bowled his 15 overs claiming 3 for 49.Mellie wicket keeper James Lane had a good day behind the stumps claiming 3 catches and the important run out of the old foe Eric Davy for 64. Worlingworth ended their innings on 153 for 9.
Early wickets were needed by the home side if they were going to put the Mellie side under pressure. Johns was dismissed for a duck, but the ever green John Stuck remained solid, despite the ball swinging and the bowlers being on top. The Mellie men were reduced to 10 for 2 with the loss of their extrovert keeper James Lane and this brought Skipper Hoadley to the crease with his new bat. Stuck dropped anchor, whilst Hoadley harvested the bad balls and pushed the score onto 91 before a loose shot cost him his wicket. Enter Daniel Willingham who took up the reigns from Hoadley. Stuck found more freedom and the boundary against the Worlingworth change bowlers and put the away side in sight of victory, but no match is complete without a Mellie collapse .Stuck , Willingham and Ben Pettit all went in the space of 2 runs , but victory soon came and a 4 wicket victory sealed with a good team performance
