Long Melford battled hard to the final over but came up just short on a very hot day at Easton.
Melford won the toss and elected to bat first on a good track and made a solid start with Ashley Skeggs and Elliot Pinkham reaching 46 from 11 overs before Pinkham fell lbw for 18.
Brett Wright was then adjudged to have hit a delivery that was caught off his pad and had to walk on seven as Easton continued to bowl a nagging length.
Skeggs batted well for his 41 and Bill Byford made a useful 33 before getting a questionable lbw decision before Stuart Whitehart struck some weighty blows in a boundary-laden 65 to see Melford to 208 for six wickets from their 45 overs, helped immensely by six dropped catches.
Easton started strongly and reached 65 at around the required run rate before James French took his first wicket a third of the way through the innings.
French continued to bowl well and soon got another wicket fifteen runs later.
Melford were fighting Easton all the way, curtailing the chase to four or five an over and taking wickets to push the game to the final over.
With Easton needing two to win it was always going to be a hard task but captain Gareth Boon claimed a wicket with the first ball to give Melford hope.
However, it was not to be as a nervy four through third man helped Easton over the line with three balls to spare. Long Melford worked hard for the whole day for their eight points as Easton took 18.
