A good all-round performance saw off a Haverhill side that were sitting second in the table at the start of play.
Haverhill won the toss and elected to bat on a good track but no-one really went on to get a score with four players making over 20, most noticeably Fox (34) and Forshaw (35).
Melford bowled reasonably tightly with Ayrton taking 3 for 38 off his 10 and Newman 3 wickets for 42 off his 10.
Melford’s reply started well with Henbury displaying some textbook hitting through the off-side with the first wicket going after 45. Wood came in and stroked some agricultural shots through the leg-side as he went for 31.
However, once he was caught the rest of the middle order struggled to support the earlier good work. Henbury was then caught for 81 with Melford still needing 21 runs for victory with 3 wickets intact which brought the game back into the balance.
It was left to the experienced Hoadley and Skeggs at 8 and 9 to see Melford home with Skeggs hitting a 4 in true Melford style over the bowlers head to win the game.
