Long Melford I 96-3 beat Sudbury II 92 all out by seven wickets
Long Melford’s Sunday first XI beat Sudbury seconds by seven wickets instigated by the swing of Ivan Newman.
He took four of the top five wickets before leaving for hospital after breaking his hand following a dropped catch.
Ex-Melford player Brian Poulson put on a couple of good stands, most notably with Sudbury skipper Macdiarmid, who offered some resistance with a knock of 24.
Macdiarmid’s time was up after some fantastic work in the field with a run out from man-of-the-match Elliot Pinkham.
Pinkham was then brought on for a variety of buffet bowling which did the trick as Melford sent the scouts out on the leg side and Pinkham claimed two wickets.
Pinkham opened with Melford chasing a target of 93, and a solid knock of 40 only ended when he was bowled with the sides level, Macdiarmid the pick of the bowlers after a tight spell of seven overs.
Matthew Holt entered the fray, hitting an agricultural boundary to seal the fourth win in four Melford games at the weekend.
